French Toast

During weekends, hubby always prepares breakfast fo us. Its either, pan cakes, oatmeal or french toast. He made us french toast yesterday morning. Preparing french toast is easy. All you need is bread, egg, cinnamon and butter, of course syrup when its done as toppings.Here's a recipe from southernfood.about.com.

This French toast recipe cuts back on fat by using only 1 whole egg and 2 egg whites. Ingredients: 1 egg 2 egg whites 1/4 cup milk 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon dash nutmeg 8 slices French bread, sliced on diagonal Preparation: In a shallow bowl, whisk egg and egg white until foamy. Whisk in milk, vanilla, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Have warming drawer heated or heat oven to 200°. Heat butter in heavy skillet over medium-low heat. Dip 4 slices of bread in the egg mixture, turning to coat thoroughly. Let excess drip back into bowl. Place coated bread slices in hot skillet. Cook, turning, until both sides are nicely browned, about 2 minutes each side. Transfer to a warm plate and keep warm in oven. Repeat with remaining bread and egg mixture. To serve, sprinkle with cinnamon sugar, if desired. Serve with maple syrup

This will aid in the prevention of varicose and spider veins by eliminating the excess pressure on your legs that cause veins to surface. Wear compression stockings. Support hose keep pressure evenly distributed. But, be careful: Tight clothing around specific body parts, including the waist and groin, might restrict circulation and actually lead to spider and varicose veins.

I am very forgetful and I hate that about me. I am bad at losing keys and other important things because of it. I remember when I was still in high school, it was mid August so the sea was very rough because of big waves so my friends and I have to walk 4 hours from our house to the town where our boarding house was. When I arrived there to open the door, I realized that I forgot it at home. I felt like I was going to pass out because I was so dead tired of walking and then that happened, gosh! Why Saying No to Foods May Be Harder for Women

I find this news very interesting. New research on the brain suggests that women unconsciously have a tougher time resisting their favorite foods than men do. Maybe that is the reason why there are a lot of over weight women than men. What do you think? Read on with this article that I gathered from everydayhealth.com. "This gives us another piece to put into this puzzle," said Dr. Gene-Jack Wang, the study's author, who speculated that women may have more trouble saying no to food because they sometimes have to eat for two. "Maybe evolution leads them to this because of their important mission to have a baby," said Wang, a senior scientist at Brookhaven National Laboratory and professor of psychiatry at Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York. According to Wang, the new study aimed to understand why some people don't stop eating when they're full. Your body tells you that you've eaten enough by sending a signal to your brain from the gut, he explained, "but if you go to the buffet, sometimes you just cannot stop." This wasn't a big problem throughout history because people rarely had a chance to eat more than they needed, Wang said. But modern society has changed that, he said, especially over the past 30 to 40 years as obesity has become much more common in the United States. For the study, which appears in this week's issue of the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, the researchers asked 13 women and 10 men about their favorite foods. The participants said they liked a variety of dishes and desserts, including lasagna, pizza, brownies, ice cream and fried chicken. Then, after they fasted for 20 hours, the researchers presented them with their favorite foods; the dishes were even warmed up, if appropriate, to make them more tempting. The men and women were allowed to smell and taste the food but not eat it. Then, in an experiment, they were told to try to inhibit their desire to eat the food. Meanwhile, PET scans examined their brain activity. The researchers found that certain areas of the brain became more active in both the men and women when they were tempted with food. The brain areas that lit up control emotions such as motivation. Also, both men and women succeeded in making themselves feel less hungry by inhibiting their desire to eat the food. But the brain scans suggested that the women's brains were still acting as if they were hungry. In other words, the women may have thought they were less hungry, but their brains didn't seem to be entirely on board. What's going on? Hormones could play a factor in women, Wang said, because they need to eat more when they're pregnant. The research could help scientists understand why some people can't resist certain kinds of high-calorie food, Wang said. "Some people cannot inhibit themselves, and we need to help those people."

spaghetti...

When I first came to the States, I tried to discover what my father in law's favorite foods are. He love food that are sweets and snacks like that. I prepared him a spaghetti one time but it was Filipino style, you know the one with hotdog and a lil' bit of sugar in it. I was surprised that he liked it and since then whenever I prepare spaghetti, I do it Filipino style. He told me that the hotdog actually compliments the touch of sweetness on the sauce. He also love eating my lasagna..

My husband like the way I prepare it too. Before leaving home yesterday morning, he told me that if I decided to cook something, he would love to have some spaghetti, so that's what me and my kids prepared. My husband can eat a lot of spaghetti hehehe..When we moved out from his house, I always call him to come over to our house every time I cook spaghetti or lasagna. When I graduated from elementary, my parents hesitated to enroll me in high school because they were afraid that they won't be able to afford the expenses. I bravely enrolled by myself and find a family that need my service as a maid and was luckily to finish. God is so good that I got accepted as a working student in school when I was in college and when I was working already, I strived hard to finish my masters too. Despite of that, I admired my parents for giving me their support and guidance.

2. My husband and I first meeting was during my graduate studies graduation (pic above), he was my escort then hehehe. Most of the people in school were shocked coz I kept my relationship with my husband a secret.

In two years..

I was very very happy that I finally decided to wean my son. It sure gave me sore breasts but it's okay because I can see the advantage on my son. menudo for lunch

It's been a while since I made menudo that's why when I asked my husband if what does he want for lunch, he said "menudo" so that's what me and my daughter cooked today. Kimchee Lesson

Tonight was the last night of the English class to my student Jason. So we made it unforgettable for both of us. He gave a free lesson on how to make our favorite Korean dish, bibimbap and he also taught me how to make kimchee. Kamsa Hamnida Eun, we're going to miss you. scallop potatoes and salisbury steak

My daughter and I decided to make scallop potatoes today because it's been a long while since the last time we had it. My husband's family is part Irish so they love dishes with pototaoes. I learned to make this dish from my sister in law and niece. Thanks guys for teaching me.

I usually put slices of onions at the bottom of the pan, it makes it more tasty. There's only four of us so we only made the right amount for us (3 medium potatoes). You can add bacon bits but I just chopped up two slices of bacons. Layer the slices of potatoes in a pan, add butter and cheese. I used the eden cheese that one of the filipina heregave us.

Then, just repeat the pattern for the rest of the ingredients and top it off with the remaining cheese and pour milk on it and sprinkle a little bit of pepper.

Bake it for about an hour, depending on the amount of milk you have added. Sorry, I don't measure hehehe..

sleepless night

We had a rough time the night before last night because our son did not sleep well. He kept us all night, he was trying to make me nurse him again but I don't want to stop what I started. I been tagged by Umma, Madz, and Beth. I'm sorry ladies for posting this so late, I been busy with my new project here at home (weaning my son hehehe). This is a timing tag for my luvvyduvvyhubby because he will be celebrating the biggest milestone of his life, the beginning of his LIFE.... Yep, he will be 40 years young next month!

First and foremost I love JOHN because he is what he is. He is a great husband to me and great Dad to our children. He love playing with our kids, tells them stories, read them books and take care of them when I'm away.

I love him because he understand my obligation to my family. He knows the Filipino traditions and cultures well, so helping my family in the Philippines financially is never a problem to him. Even if I told him that he is not oblige to support them, he still insist that we send them.I love him because he is goofy, silly and funny. Laughter is what spice up our relationship from the very beginning. There is never a dull moment with him, which makes our life together interesting and joyful all the time.I love him because he understand the full meaning of a family. We are always his priority among everything else. He always set aside what he wants for the sake of his love to us.

I love him because he is humble and good communicator. When I am mad, I don't talk but John wouldn't let the day pass by without us being reconciled. Even on times that I am the one on the wrong side, he is the one saying sorry.

Oatmeal-Cinnamon Chip Cookies

Upon seeing this recipe, I remember my father in law who love baking oatmeal cookies. See, that's why my husband love baking too, bakers run in the blood of his family hehehe.. According to cookingclub.com, January is National Oatmeal Month. Finding a reason to pay homage to this grain shouldn't be difficult—it's nutritious, delicious and versatile. Go beyond breakfast with these chewy cinnamon chip-loaded cookies. One bite will remind you why oatmeal deserves a month all to itself.

Here's how: cup unsalted butter, softened 1 cup packed brown sugar 1/2 cup sugar 1 egg 1/4 cup water 2 teaspoons vanilla extract 1 cup all-purpose flour 1/2 teaspoon salt 1/2 teaspoon baking soda 1/2 teaspoon ground ginger 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg 3 cups coarsely chopped old-fashioned oats* 1 (10-oz.) pkg. cinnamon chips 1 cup raisins or chocolate-covered raisins 1/2 cup chopped pecans or walnuts ******************************************************** 1. Heat oven to 350°F. Beat butter, brown sugar and sugar in large bowl at medium speed until light and fluffy. Beat in egg until well-combined. Add water and vanilla, beating well and scraping down sides and bottom of bowl, if necessary. ******************************************************** 2. Combine flour, salt, baking soda, ginger, cinnamon and nutmeg in medium bowl until blended. Stir flour mixture into batter, along with oats. Stir in cinnamon chips, raisins and pecans. Drop by rounded tablespoons onto baking sheets 1 inch apart. ******************************************************** 3. Bake 12 to 15 minutes or until just set and pale brown. Cool on baking sheet on wire rack 1 minute. Place cookies on wire rack; cool completely. TIP *To coarsely chop oats, pulse in food processor. This recipe makes 4 dozens of cookies.
