froggy saturday re-ignites turtle memories

It's time to explore the Camera Critters around the world.

One of my favorite past time is gardening, I always want to make sure that my flowers don't have weeds in them. I was doing my gardening one Saturday morning when I saw this frog, well, my husband said it was a toad. so I called my kids and showed it to them. They were so fascinated because that was their first time to see a toad.

My daughter remembered the turtle that my husband found in the woods a year ago back in the States. We kept it for a day and we decided to put him back in the woods. My daughter told us that we need to return the turtle back where her Dad found it because the Mommy of the turtle is waiting for her. I was moved by my daughter's loving gesture/attitude towards animals especially in her very young mind.

Cigar

My husband was teasing me when I received a cigar from the mail. It's one of the perks I got from taking a survey. I gave it to my brother-in-law who smokes cigar and he was thrilled, I am also glad because it wasn't wasted. My father-in-law told me that he used to smoke cigar too when he was young.

Creative Mind

Ever since we transferred overseas, we have noticed so many changes with our daughter. Back in the States she wasn't very fond of watching cartoon characters, she preferred dancing and cooking shows. But now, her day is not complete if she can't watch her favorite shows like Dora the Explorer, Diego the Animal Rescuer, Wonder pets, Hi5, Backyardigans,Danny and the Dinosaur and many more.

She also started to draw and make some arts. She would draw something and will ask me "What is this Mommy?" She can make beautiful pictures even if she don't know what it is. She drew this forest and told me to look for the monkeys that are climbing around the trees. One time she drew this picture that look like a pig. I made up some stories to her art works like the places she have been and the members of our family. We sent all of her works to her grandfather in the States because she said that she misses him so much. But of course I took pictures of it so I will have a lasting remembrance of her creativeness.

We should always treasure every little things that our children does because they grow up so fast and it is always good to reminisce everything that they have done. Just like last year's Easter, my daughter and I were playing outside and she found this rock that shaped like an egg and she said "Look Mommy, the Easter bunny left me an egg!" Then one time, we we're walking around the neighborhood and my son picked this leaf with a cocoon, well the cocoon wasn't there anymore and he gave it to me. My husband said, "eww that's gross" but I kept it anyway because it something that we could look back and treasure in the future.

Left Over food

What do you do with your left over food? Do you throw it away? When I came to the States, I've seen left over foods just being wasted. Especially after big occassions like Thanksgiving, Christmas or 4rth of July Celebration. When I see the food just go bad because no one wants to eat left over anymore, I feel really guilty inside. I always think about the street children in the Philippines where they have to sell Sampaguita, rugs or newspaper just so they can help their family to raise money for food..

As part of the Filipino culture and tradition, food is very important and we never throw left overs. I carried that practice even now that I am married. I see to it that the food I am cooking is just enough for us. There are times that we have left over but I never threw them. We always eat it the next day, after all some LOs are better tasting when it sets for a day.

The other day I made a beef roast but we didn't able to eat it all, so what I did is I made a vegetable soup out of it. I just added some frozen veggies (fresh veggies is better) and tadahhhh masarap na ulam na for lunch..

Some left overs that I always used forsecond cooking is adobong baboy, I always uses it as sahog in pansit... Yummmmyummmyyy!

This is our dessert for today.. Sweet rice or malagkit.. Do you guys want some?

Proud as I can be

June 19 of last year, we received a package from my sister in law from the States. Rylie was so excited because most of its content was hers. She got her very first helmet, although she didn't know how to use the big bike yet, she was so happy. I told her to try her big bike. She was hesitant at first but she tried it anyway and I was so amazed that she learned it so quickly. I am so proud of you Anak!

My kids wanted to play outside one time last year so I decided to do some gardening while watching them.. As I was pulling out the weeds, my two makukulit ones are pulling the flowers too... Ugggghhhh.. sentiments of the plants hahaha.. When I got done weeding out, I watered them and my son EJ wanted to get the hose from me.. I sprayed him with water and he found it very amusing so I did it over and over again.. Then I let him hosed the rest of the plants..

Night Time Predator

One of the main problems we're having, being overseas, is the mosquitoes. Our house is located near a mountain with trees. During summer time, mosquitoes are everywhere. Every time we open our door, some of them manage to sneak in. Then later that night, they attack us....especially our daughter.

My husband and daughter are very sensitive to mosquito bites; swelling occurs easily and it takes time for the bites to fade. Our daughter often wakes in the middle of the night complaining about the itching sensation caused by the numerous bites she aquired while being asleep. We try to keep her body covered as much as possible but they still attack her face.

We became so fed up with the situation that we purchased a small mosquito tent which fits nicely over a twin mattress. So far, we have had success, not a single bite and she sleeps through the night. Thank God! I hope that these "blood thirsty" little beasts won't bother my daughter anymore. Our only concern now is crawling insects. This area is known for its heavy population of centipedes. We must always ensure these invaders can't get inside the net. We pray to God for continued success.

Even now that is cold already, we still see some mosquitoes flying around. I am glad that in two weeks time, we're outta here. I'll sure miss Korea but not the mosquitos!
